Todays board of the day is a 8'6" Aipa surfboard was presented to Kelly Rhode by Craig Sugihara of Town and Country Hawaii, China Uemura of the Honolulu Longboard Club, Ben Aipa and the Makaha Surf Team when Kelly was reassigned from Camp Smith, Hawaii to Camp LeJeune, NC in 1985.
Kelly was Vice president of the Makaha Surf Team, team rider for Town and Country Hawaii and AIPA team rider.
Kelly was also part of a team lead by Reid Inouye that created the Hawaiian Pro Am Circuit(HPAC).
Kelly was the 5-time, undefeated Hawaii All Services Surfing Champ. He also won the national All-Services Championships in both long and shortboard for 5 of the 10 years he completed.
Kelly got out of the USMC in 1990 and spent 20 years in Akron, Ohio working as a Systems Programmer/Project Manager in the corporate world for ROADWAY, FedEx and Bridgestone/Firestone before relocating to Myrtle Beach.
Come out and "Talk Story" with Kelly at Surf City or on the beach at 67th Avenue North at the Myrtle Beach Surf Camp put on by Surf City.
